Donald Trump's Regime of Punishment and Favor

Trump's intense urge for payback has quickly evolved into a methodical framework. Within the past year, the leader's fury and whims have assumed the guise of official policies in a manner analogous to earlier repressive governments. Justice department personnel who resist his demands are immediately dismissed and replaced by supporters. Opposing figures who confront him face prosecution, court proceedings and penalties. Opponents have been designated under executive memoranda as “unpatriotic”, “against faith communities” and “opposing economic freedom”, and menaced with criminal charges as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Each instance involving targeting of critics and leniency for loyalists exhibits its own distinct characteristics. Yet, notwithstanding their specific nature, they embody manifestations of what has developed as a systematic technique. These events are far from coincidental. Trump's removal of federal lawyers and FBI personnel, alongside his appointment of devotees in high-level roles, began rapidly, quickly took on a pattern, and has now been formed into a system. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been remade into partisan organizations under the president's direct direction to execute his directives. Injustice has been made routine. It represents the system of punishment.

Management is more concerned with penalizing the President's perceived opponents than they are with safeguarding our country's safety.

Inside the System

The beginnings of this framework has been revealed in the legal complaint of multiple ex- top FBI executives submitted in September in the judicial system in the capital against FBI director a senior appointee and top lawyer a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a effort of revenge against the officials for what the accused deemed to be a failure to exhibit proper devotion”. The document states that a former acting director, the previous interim leader, describes a exchange in which the director “publicly admitted the impropriety of his actions”.

He had attempted to shield FBI agents from being terminated, the complaint claims. Patel advised him that “White House figures” – interpreted by the official to be the presidential administration and DoJ – had ordered him to remove anyone who they determined as having participated in a criminal investigation against the president. The complaint continues: “Patel stated that he had to terminate the individuals his leaders told him to fire, because his capacity to keep his own job was contingent on the dismissal of the agents who handled investigations involving the leader. He noted that there was no way he or the official could do to stop these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau sought to put the President in jail and he remembers.’” Once the official informed him he was disregarding the agency's own policies, he supposedly said “he recognized that and he realized the character of the summary firings were almost certainly illegal”.

Extensive Consequences

Following Patel's reported confession to him, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been weakened and reorganized for his revenge apparatus. Several of the bureau's top officials were dismissed or forced out in the early weeks of the government. About numerous professional attorneys at the justice department have taken a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of multiple DoJ lawyers, including those in the New York office, resigned in dissent over what they regarded as political interference in withdrawing the corruption case against the city leader, the mayor, in return for his collaboration with his ICE detentions of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of the department, which oversees corruption cases, has been cut down to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been decimated: the majority of its employees has left. 33% of executives at DoJ have resigned. The division enforcing ecological regulations has lost a majority its management.

Favors and Punishments

In the Adams case, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, the official, stepped down in objection against what she characterized as the “quid pro quo”. The border official, his “immigration leader,” showed up as the implementer with him on Fox News to state: “Unless he complies, I will return in New York City.”. And, another figure, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the deal, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a possible springboard to the judicial branch.

Trump's protection for crimes committed while in office, awarded by the unprecedented ruling of the Republican majority on the supreme court, thus thwarting his criminal case over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his public standing for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he stands to shield his loyalists. Given this protection, he has been empowered to enable misconduct. The impact of the judicial ruling permeates his administration and the Republican Party completely. Trump v United States has escalated. In the words of the former president's administration lawyer John Dean said about the Watergate
